About Gemma

I am a social anthropologist who researches and writes about behaviour in the built environment.

I was awarded a PhD from St Andrews University in 2009, before taking up a post-doctoral position at Edinburgh University at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (IASH) and Manchester University at the Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change (CRESC).  In 2014, I obtained a diploma from the Interior Design School, and became a consultant with Strategy+ at AECOM.  I have also worked for Foster + Partners in London.

In 2017, I set up Human City, a spatial research, design strategy and innovation consultancy.  I am a consultant, writer, and academic.
